Five Rivers Retreat is situated on Kotahi Farm, a 700-acre working farm in the Five Rivers District in the heart of Northern Southland that runs cattle, sheep, and deer. Ruby also has a host of animals to show you, two pet sheep her Cat Cleo and her pet guinea pigs along with the working dogs! Your hosts, Paula and Roger Thompson, have a daughter, Ruby, who loves to talk to visitors. In their free time, Roger enjoys fishing - especially fly fishing - and is sure to point you to a good fishing spot. Paula loves cooking, so you'll get to enjoy some good and tasty food! Five Rivers Retreat offers two stylishly individual designed and decorated guest rooms each with their own private entrance. Rustic Tuscany Room The rural rustic feel makes this room warm and welcoming. Decorated in Tuscany tones, the bedroom has a king size bed (able to be converted to twin king singles). The ensuite bathroom features a clawfoot bath (great for relaxing in after a day's travelling!), large shower, a rimu vanity and tiled heated floor. Pacific Room With a distinctly Pacific flavour, this room has a king size bed (able to be converted to twin king singles). The ensuite has a modern feel with a large shower, a modern deep bath, a wall-hung vanity, and tiled heated flooring. All guests have access to phone, fax and email services and rooms are equipped with a telephone jack point for laptop computer use. Television, video, tea and coffee making facilities are provided in our large lounge for you to enjoy at your convenience. Self-service laundry facilities are available on request and passenger transfers can be arranged if required.

Both areas are separate to our living areas but you will still feel part of our home, we can even supply a black Lab for those who are missing their own family pets, she relishes the attention given and at odd times when our cat feels like being sociable, he will join you. If you do not like animals, we keep them well out of your way. We are a typical Kiwi family, our daughter is at Otago University and our son is deep sea fishing. The Little Church Retreat Southland

The Little Church Retreat is located at Flints Bush, which is approximately 30km from Invercargill and Winton and 15km from Riverton. We have 13 acres incorporating the little church, expansive gardens and 2000 hazelnut trees for people to visit and enjoy. The little church has been restored, retaining its original t&g flooring and internal wall linings. The windows however, have been replaced as the original windows were removed and destroyed. The bathroom has been made to allow for wheelchair access and has a wet-floor area with a sunken spa bath. The kitchen is confined within the main church area on a raised floor that has an altar type table that seats four. Gas hobb and air conditioning have been installed for convenience and comfort. The main church area incorporates a luxurious queen sized bed, couches and television. All of which can be removed in order to facilitate the area for a wedding ceremony or other type function. Breakfast has been provided, though self contained. You will find cereals, breads, fruit, bacon and eggs to cook and serve at your convenience, with a departure time of 11.00am. This can be enjoyed through French doors that lead to a large decking set in a private lawn area. A marquee can be provided for functions where extra space is required. Self-catering or service catering. You can take The Southern Scenic Route to Milford Sound and along the way visit Tuatapere, Manapouri and Te Anau. Spend the day cycling, tramping, fishing or visiting Riverton beach, then return and relax at The Little Church. As your hosts, Sally and Ross Tily, we both spend much of our time in Invercargill along with our two children, Amanda and Brad. I am in part-time employment and along with the kids spend a couple of days a week on after school activities, but am usually home, two to three days a week.
