The Hotel Mediterraneo, 4 star hotel in the center of Rome, planned in 1938 by Mario Loreti, sits on the highest of Rome's seven hills, the Esquilino, and offers a magnificent panorama of Rome.The Hotel was conceived with the aim of becoming a Grand Hotel and the objective was fully fulfilled. Its interior design is inspired by a sense of monumental luxury, where precious woods and marble are allied with a sea theme design recurring throughout the hotel. The beautiful high ceilinged Breakfast Dining Hall is decorated with triton and mermaid figureheads in carved oak, with two large chandeliers decorated with mermaids and matching lanterns; the lobby is adorned with marble busts of Roman Emperors and mosaics portraying the departure and return of Ulysses to Ithaca, the young Telemaco, Penelope and his dog Argo. The Hotel Mediterraneo is a fine example of Italian Art Deco, in the classical rationalist style typical of the period. Enriched with marble, mosaic, and precious wood finishings, it boasts an extraordinary marble staircase with steps and landings built with monolithic blocks suspended in air. In the bar one can admire the Murano glass and alabaster counter, besides wood inlay panels with Bacchus in the company of grape harvesters; the central lobby has a working fireplace surmounted by a wood inlay panel with Prometheus, while on the upper level in the grand lobby one of the walls boasts a painted vellum map of the Mediterranean Sea.At the Hotel Mediterraneo's elegant Restaurant 21, one can enjoy refined international and national dishes accompanied by a selected wine list of vintage wines. The Hotel Mediterraneo can also host conventions up to 100 people in its two meeting rooms both equipped with the latest audio and video technologies which include an amplification system, audio and video recordings, projection systems, photocopier, direct telephone line, and air conditioning.
